hi,

my outboard is a 1983 evinrude v4, 90 hp. from one of the coils (I
think that's what it's), there're two small wires(16 gauge, maybe),
one goes to cyliner #3(which sits below #1) and one goes to #4(sits
below #2). can anyone tell me:

1. what are those wires for? (are they just ground wires) I look at
the service manual and there's no reference on those wires.
2. The connection in #3 is kind of corroded, what can I do about it?
3. when I first take off the cowling, there's a faint smell of gas, is
this normal?

just wanted to add that the wire is connected to the cylinder head and
is not held by a bolt/screw or anything. the cylinder head has a
little hole (next to one of the bolts) and the wire goes in there and
it looks like it was sealed by some sort of sealant.

Yes, a minute smell of gas fumes will be there, because of the
carburators being enclosed under the cowl. if you see the carbs
dripping, thats not a good sign, but the fumes will always be there.

Concerning the wire? it copulg be an overheat alarm, but not sure.

what do you guys recommand as far as service manual goes? the cd
version (similar to a seloc, i think. about 460 pages) I have is too
generic and rather incomplete. I'd like something that's more hand-
holding as well. thx
