Now, who's got the recipe for the chowdah mentioned in Harry's thread? Well if you want the Scottish variety, google for: cullen skink recipe I'm afraid that unless my mother is making it from scratch, I get it from the supermarket. On the boat related side of things, I just got a letter from the marina. Annual lock maintenance closure extended due to adverse weather . . . :-( Speaking of weather, you guys seem to be catching some real crap according to our local news. Hope all is well with you and yours. Thank you for asking, John. All seems to be well, though a relative was working in a health centre near where the child was crushed by the falling wall in north London. As the staff know the family well, eveyone was rather upset. I am not going to say any more out of respect for their confidentiality other than to say they are in our thoughts. On a lighter note, I haven't recived any nastygrams from the Marina and this webcam loking out over the Thames estuary in the general area looks fairly calm at the moment: http://www.iossc.org.uk/weather/ so all should be OK with the yacht. I am down there tomorrow to do maintenance. I'm mighty glad I picked up the permanent shore lines from our previous marina just after Christmas and put them on a fortnight back. They are extremely heavy three strand with spliced eyes and well covered with reinforced plastic hoze to prevent chafe. We were thinking about hauling out for the winter but I think in view of the number of yachts which have been toppled this year, even though we've moved to a less exposed marina, we'll stay in apart from a brief haulout for essentials like antifouling and anodes. Got a work party on down my local sailing club on Sunday, I wonder what chaos We'll find in the dinghy park. :-( Looks nice and calm now. Glad to hear all is well. I just talked to a friend in the Netherlands. They lost a couple trees in their garden, but no damage to property. -- ***** Have a super day! ***** John H |

Looks like a nice spring day to me! Here's our harbour buoy info...although we've warmed up dramatically from the -18C we suffered through for a couple of days. My hot water to the upstairs bathroom had frozen for a day. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=44258 |

We are serving as a race committee boat for the anual Key West sailing regatta, and are surrounded by several hundred boats sailing in circles. What a sight. Rub salt in the wound why don't you? ~~ mutter ~~ Well, you and Mrs Wave are always welcome to come visit. The weather this week in Key West has been absolutely magnificent, but we're headed home tomorrow. |

Wayne,
I was coming into Wiggins around 3pm today and saw a Grand Banks heading north between 3 and 5 miles from shore. Was that you? "Wayne.B" wrote in message ... We were abeam of Wiggins Pass at 3:12 PM and exactly 3.95 NM off shore. It looks like you probably saw us because there were no other north bound boats any where near by. I usually run closer to shore than that but decided to straight line it from Marco Island to Ft Myers Beach to save time. We spent last night anchored in Little Shark River. Tides were extremely low this morning when we were leaving, and the channel there was at least a foot shallower than charted depths. Lucky we got out before noon time. |

I was guessing that was you, as I read your dolphin report when you were heading down to the Keys. I was in a 30' Grady White heading SE into a nasty quartering sea at 26 knots. The boat handled it well, but I was throwing a helluva lot of water. My starboard side eisenglass was soaked and salt encrusted, and I picked you up on radar long before I saw you. When you were off my stern, I thought I recognized the boat. I didn't know the name of your vessel, or I would have tried to hail you on 16. I'd imagine that your vessel didn't even feel the seas...especially with them at your back. |
