It's been down for over two years as they reinforced the dam. I was out last Saturday, and we've got our lake back! I like lake Murray, We use to live in Lexington and used that marina by the dam to launch from. It was great because it was so close to the house. We were there when they droped the lake to kill the hydrilla that was choking the shallows, did that work out ? Capt Jack R.. Nope. They finally introduced sterile Grass Carp to the lake a couple of years ago. That, coupled with the low levels forced by dam repair, has knocked it back. We'll see how much is left out there this summer when it is usually at its worst. Jake's Landing is the marina by the dam. It's closest to our house, and is where we keep our boat. |

I beleive Jake's Landing was it. We had a house on Old Cherokee road in Lexington when I was with NCR there. I really miss the pace of Columbia as compaired to Atlanta. Columbia ia a nice laid back place and has nice weather.. ahhh but life moved us on once again. :-) Capt Jack R.. |

They offered me a position in SC after I finished my degree and was working in Calif for NCR. Decided I liked CA better and changed jobs. Would have taken a job at Rancho Bernardo. |

A good move I am sure, After AT&T took them over and the resulting meltdown I wonder if there was anything left there. It is really to bad because it was a good company and SC is a nice laid back place to live. Still doing teck work, just not for them. Cheers! Capt Jack R.. |

We liked the west end of the lake, so we kept the boat at Southshore Marina on Hwy 378, down at the double bridges going toward the traffic circle. Now we live in the Corley Mill Rd. area, so Jake's is closer. And I work with a bunch of ex-NCR people. We hired them as our business expanded over the last few years, and they were looking for work. |

I would trade Atlanta for Columbia anyday, But times change as you well know. I figured sooner or later I was going to be one of those ex-NCR people looking for work there. Thus I landed a job in Atlanta and moved on. Besides Murry, you got the Saluda there and that is a nice river to float. We ran it once from just behind the dam to Radio lane. Very nice and peacefull. Of course you have to be wary that they might increase the water out of the dam at any time. It was strange to be in-town and have such a relaxing river to run. There are a few places you had to be careful due to some shallow rocky areas. But heck the only thing we saw before we spotted the I26 bridge at Radio lane was a water intake for some plant. All the rest was wooded or farm land. Capt Jack R.. |
