Default Day trip to Catalina

I haven't made it myself yet, but everything I've read says be sure to be
underway by 0700 going and coming., as once the Sun warms things up it can
be pretty choppy.
Also, check the weather - not just locally, but for storms a few days away,
as they can churn up the ocean several days before there's any talk about
coming storms on radio and TV.

Has anyone made the trip to Catalina from Dana Point in a day cruiser.
I have a Cobalt 252 and plan to make the trip this summer. I would
like to hear from someone that has actually made the trip, any
information would help thou.
