Default Day trip to Catalina

Has anyone made the trip to Catalina from Dana Point in a day cruiser.
I have a Cobalt 252 and plan to make the trip this summer. I would
like to hear from someone that has actually made the trip, any
information would help thou.

I haven't made it myself yet, but everything I've read says be sure to be
underway by 0700 going and coming., as once the Sun warms things up it can
be pretty choppy.
Also, check the weather - not just locally, but for storms a few days away,
as they can churn up the ocean several days before there's any talk about
coming storms on radio and TV.

Not on my boat. But most of the SoCal guys I know always plan to maybe have
to spend the night. The channel can get very rough in the afternoon if the
winds come up.
