Maybe so, if You plan to cross the Atlantic every time You use it...
Preparation is part of every trip, but offcourse not the same on a trip
across the Thames or Missisipi, as a trip across the Atlantic Ocean. If I
was to do that, I would start by getting the necessary experience on small
trips, then extending the duration until I was confident that I had the
necessary skills.

Also a rookie

Thank you, I already have contacted few schools via the net and one
already
got back
to me and gave me some information via mail.

It can take few months to get the basic-to-advance schooling done but for
the
international
water and long distance experience and teaching will take longer than
that,
at least a year.

So based on that, I can start planning on it for now and also decide to
move
back 'home'
in Cali, where I can take the courses and be close to the club and marina.

One might think this can only be done for pure pleasure or himself but I
know
of many that
charter to yachts and make a decent money to maintain their hobby. I
might
end up
doing the same once I complete all the necessary schooling and on-job
training.

Another great option to help you, is to sail on OPB's.... ( Other peoples
boats)... Hitching a ride on numerous coastal passages will really move you
forward... Yachts going to and from race destinations are a great way to get
out there. Find where the big regattas are within a 1000 mile radius and be
prepared to fly out to meet a homecoming boat or vice versa.

Its not too hard.. Scour the race web sites for the Forums and Crew Wanted
sections and go from there.
