If you inist on making a political statement in rec.boats, do so without trying to shift the guilt to anybody who might, (omigod!), express an opinion that such posts are inappropriate in a boating forum. Just stand up like a man and be political. No need to add personal remarks as seasoning. If you can't take the heat that might result from somebody freely expressing an opinion about your post, don't make it. |

Gould, this may come as a shock to your oversized ego, but I really don't give a rat's ass what you think, your NG directives, your opinions or your boring, self-serving essays that you call OT boating posts. I am likely a lot more mature than you, given the fact that I came to realize I am a mere mortal many years ago and not all that important in the grand scheme of things. Eisboch |

Huey, Dewey, and Louie? really isn't interested in any kind of discussion, they are looking for a way to start a flame fest. Forget about if rec.boats is really the correct forum for a political discussion and if I would enjoy a nice political discussion every now and then. I might think the current administration is a bunch of low life scum, but I know I could never have a political discussion in rec.boats. You and I have been reading rec.boats long enough to realize rec.boats has NEVER had an intelligent political discussion. It very quickly becomes a venue to call others "assholes", scumbags, etc. The person who started this thread has stated numerous times, he has no desire to discuss boating in rec.boats, he finds the topics boring and repetitive. He has also stated he doesn't believe the right wing scum who pollute this NG are worth anything more than a one line insult. History has shown us that inflammatory political discussion in rec.boats, and the name calling will quickly spread into EVERY on topic thread in rec.boats. Since this is a non moderated NG, if the majority really want rec.boats to become a rec.political.flamefest, that is what it will become. I may not agree with Chuck's style when he highlights OT political posts, but I do agree that political posts and discussion does eliminate any hope of this being a friendly group to have any kind of discussion. |

If I express an opinion, everybody is free to give whatever portion of a rat, (or not), that they deem appropriate. Part of the risk of expressing an opinion is drawing ridicule from persons who disagree with the opinion. Comes with the territory. Among anybody's brighter adversaries are those who evaluate an opinion based on its individual merits and will take specific issue with the opinion itself. Well down from the varsity level adversaries are the middle-school mentalities which avoid discussing the substance of the opinion expressed and move to personal attacks instead. A short period of observation makes it rather obvious which particular camp any person's particular detractors happen to fall into. Please feel free to withold your rat's ass in response to any of my opinions. :-) |
