If you are planning to use it a lot and if you can afford it, get
something a bit newer... 400 hours is NO problem but there have been
huge changes in outboards in the last 7 years. I am not a 6 cylinder
expert but perhaps someone else can explain which year each 2 stoke
model got upgraded. I have a merc 97 125 on my tender and it guzzles
fuel.... The new ones are about 60% of the burn.

It's a mere pup. I have about 1700 hours on my Merc 4 stroke and I put
over 3000 on the Merc/Mariner I replaced.


I'm impressed.


Just follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedules and don't let the
engine sit around a lot between trips and they will run forever.
