Im looking at purchacing a 7 year old Johnson 200hp Outboard with approx.

Right off hand, this sounds like alot of hours to be running. But,
what do I know. I've only owned a few outboards and never had
one with an hour meter.

Any opinions on whether this engine is due for a rebuild with this
many hours?

That's less than 58 hours a year. That's not much at all. I've seen
many of these go past 1000 hours with hardly a burp. I did two
hundred on my new E-TEC this year alone.

On the other hand, they can be pigs on gas, but as far as hours go,
that's practically mint.

I would have a good mechanic go through the engine just to be sure -
all the usual stuff like compression, voltage checks, general
condition, etc. At the same time I'd replace the impeller and have
the shaft and gear oil checked.

How is it cosmetically? Anything major?

No, the thing looks great! Thanks!
