I had seen another, shorter version of that and also a write-up on the VW
"bus".
A couple of guys got a basket case VW bus and completely rebuilt it, making
it wider, and adding a 911 Porsche engine and suspension system. I forget
where the link was on the story behind the bus, but if I find it, I'll post
it.

BTW ... the Porsche that you are "riding" in ... in the video looks exactly
like mine inside.
Mine's a 911/996 Twin Turbo. The 911/996 GT3 is the same car but minus
some of the sound deadening and other non-essentials to reduce weight even
further. I believe it also has a slightly stiffer suspension.

That was pretty cool.

It didn't look or sound like the 911 driver was actually trying that
much... did you notice how he easily was able to carry too much speed
through the corners, and had to back off a few times? Didn't
downshift enough, and just pulled a higher gear than was appropriate
coming out of the corners? His job was to shoot the video, not to
race.

In any case, awesome bus!

The GT3 is more than just a little lighter and stiffer... it's pretty
much not even suitable for road use at all. Factory race car. Your
996 is a luxo-cruiser by comparison... :-)

Why do you think I used Honda as an example? I read the article.
Idiot drivers do not drive one kind of car... they are spread among
everything. However, because a majority of Porsche drivers are
enthusiasts, a far greater percentage of them are better drivers than
your typical Honda driver. Exceptions do exist.

One of the things I like about a Porsche is that you *can* drive it sensibly
and safely and still enjoy it's performance and handling. I very rarely
drive faster than that of the overall traffic flow.

Exactly. After getting out of mine, everything else feels "numb".
The feedback through the steering wheel is amazing; the brakes are
unbelievable.

The local PCA club is a bunch of really nice people, and they do an
excellent job of running driver education events at a coupe of local
tracks. If you've never had yours on the track you owe it to yourself
to give it a try. You can't explore the car's potential on the
street... the track is the only place to do it responsibly.
