Congratulations to the Dems (I aint no Dem either).

No congratulations are in order. This shouldn't be an us vs. them situation.
Now that the House is under Dem leadership, perhaps some thoughtful
discussion can happen between the two parties. If the Senate goes also, that
will make it even more likely, since the only alternative is gridlock.

One can only hope. While I've certainly been party to strenuous admonitions
about how terrible things have been under Bush (and they have been terrible
IMHO), the bigger picture demands a more measured approach about how we
govern ourselves. The founders had amazing foresight, and this election
proves it.

It's getting harder. CNN has declared Tester winner over Burns in the
Montana U.S. Senate race. The remaining undeclared Senate race is in
Virginia, where Webb maintains a 7,000-vote margin over Macaca. Virginia
probably will head into a recount, and the final results not certified
until late November or early December. If Allen had any class, he'd
concede now, right?

Remember the republicans all up in arms when a couple of seats were
contested by Democrats? So, yes, if he was any kind of man, he'd
concede.

Seems I've heard this before.

Yeah, seems to strike a chord somehow. Something about "for the good of
the country." That and "sore loser" come to mind.

Allen doesn't have that much class and the R's aren't about to let go of
a potential to keep the senate. D's would be screaming at the top of
their lungs if their leadership didn't contest, given a reversed
scenario.

I'd be among them.

Unfortunately, you picked a reform that is needed. Social Security. Quit
giving all our children's money to the older generation now. SS was never
the national retirement system. Let us hope that Pelosi does not try to be
vinductive, The country wants improvements, not witch hunts.

It may not be a national retirement system, but it was signed into law by
FDR during the depression to encourage older folks to retire and give up
their jobs to the younger generation. Contrary to some popular belief, it
was never intended to be "temporary".

I agree, the country needs improvements. The number one improvement
will be snatching the reins of the republicans responsible for the mess
we're in.
