McKinley was the George W. Bush of his era. He was totally indecisive and
was shoved into that war by Roosevelt, the Cheney of that era, along with others who, lacking Viagra, needed some way to feel like real men. The war began over the mistaken belief that the battleship "Maine" had been sabotaged. Naturally, it made perfect sense to invade the wrong country (Phillippines) just for grins. Does this sound like a familiar story? This book goes into extraordinary detail about the war: "In Our Image", by Stanley Karnow http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...45328168&itm=1 wrote in message pub.duke.edu... If I am remembering my history correctly, Teddy Roosevelt was President from 1901 until early 1909, and in that period of time the US did not fight in any major wars. If you are referring to the Spanish-American War of 1898, in which Roosevelt participated, the President who led us into that conflict was William McKinley.
