How's the software? Any problems that make you think "sumbitch I wish I
hadn't installed this piece of crap"?

I've had no problems with it. Here's a good site for cheap music,
however:
http://www.allofmp3.com

If you decide to sign up with them, download their AllTunes software,
it works much better than just going to their site.

I've been using allofmp3 for about 6 months. But, their credit card payment
system has been broken for a couple of days and I'm out of credits there. I
need to download & learn almost 50 songs in the next two weeks. I emailed
the site about the payment problem, and as usual, got answer bak not so good
understood Russian we rite more again.

Odd thing, that. My credit card happens to work still. Two of my
business associates' cards do not work. One of the guys tried two
different credit cards, one being from the same bank as mine.

I can't even get to the page where I enter the credit card info. Are you
talking about www.allofmp3.com, or www.alltunes.com? I'm avoiding alltunes
because I prefer NOT to install software - I just want to download the old
fashioned way.

I use both, but I prefer to use alltunes because you can set up several
songs to download at once. I just went to www.allofmp3.com, and got to
the page. Go to "balance" then "refill balance" button, then "add money
by credit card" button. It just worked for me, although I've got money
in there, so I didn't try to put in more.

File sharing....yecch!

You, obviously, know how to use part of Usenet. Why not download from
Usenet's alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.(your favorite genre here) for free?

Oh, I know....You feel guilty playin' music and not payin' the
billionaires. Sorry...............

Xnews works good, and is free. http://xnews.newsguy.com/

From what I gathered, they were focusing on Russian billionaires who
probably bootlegged the music from Usenet!

Don't make light of too many Russians. The finest MP3 catalog program on
the planet is:
MP3 Catalog Pro
from www.wizetech.com
for $US30.

In a very large collection, it can search through its all-RAM-based
catalog and show your honey all the songs by Travis Tritt in about a
hundred milliseconds, not grinding through disk files for 30 minutes like
most programs that do the same thing. Simply drag and drop the songs she
wants straight out of the search window into Winamp's playlist where you
want to play it in order and you're now in business. When it creates or
updates its catalog, it dissects every MP3 file it finds, separates and
stores its ID tag, even the newest version ID tag information, and can
even create a unique filename.mp3, if you like from the information
stored....or the other way around.

It's written by some really smart Russians, you know, those guys who are
making money from the US Taxpayer's Space Station sending touristas up
with the groceries...for big bucks...(c;

If you have a Windows-based MP3 collection I highly recommend this
program so you can find what you want, so easily it's uncanny....

Napster sucks....You may quote me...(c;

No binary support via my ISP, not about to pay another service when there's
no guarantee I'll find the music I need.
