Don't be so cheap.

I'm not being cheap. Rather, I often look for music that's quite obscure,
and I usually need it NOW, for various reasons. No time to post a request
in a newsgroup and hope someone lights up and offers the music 4 days
later.

There are many problems with music downloaded via "binary" newsgroups, not
the least of which is... low-fi.

Were you able to buy what you needed from the Russkis?

No. See the email further below, received late yesterday. The so-called
"token" you mentioned may have really been related to the Xrost cash card
they mention in their message. Not sure about using that method, though. The
email also suggests using alltunes, but at first glance, that doesn't allow
me to buy individual songs.

Hello,
We're sorry, our payment system is not accepting credit card payments at the
moment.

At the moment you can add money to your balance on the site of our partner
allTunes.com. Please use this link http://alltunes.com/payment/refill.shtml

You may use your AllofMP3.com login and password.

You may also refill your Allofmp3 balance with credit card or even with
cash - via Xrost service.
Xrost sells online prepaid iCards that can be immediately redeemed at
Allofmp3.
Xrost iCards can be funded by trusted international pay systems which accept
both credit cards and cash (if you don't have a credit card or don't want to
use it online at all).
You will receive a bonus of 10% if you redeem Xrost iCards.

Best regards,
