Default Rogue waves..

Rogue waves..eating DEs Actually doesnt have to be Rouge. I flew WV2
Aircraft on the Pacific barrier, Midway to Alaska, and back. I was
sitting on the radar modulator, talking to the radioman, and lookin out
the window, and saw a tiny boat, then didn't see it, This kept
repeating, so I asked sparky "What the heck is going on?" He told me
that was a DE cruising around in case we had to ditch! I have NO idea
as to how they were gonna rescue anyone, as they couldn't stay on the
water. I re-affirmed a religeion, at that time. 1958-61

My first experience underway on a DE was in February in the North Atlantic.
I remember stumbling up to the bridge and stood there horrified as I watched
the bow lift up about 20 feet and then drop, burying itself into the next
wave, completely disappearing under water up to the gun mount. I looked
around expecting somebody to *do* something but everyone on the bridge just
stood or sat there, calmly smoking cigarettes and watching.

This was SOP on the old Fletcher class I was on. When green water hits
the bridge and lookouts are brought inside, you know it's snotty!
