Fatal oklahoma boat crash....

I've ridden with Gordon many times, I don't think it was a drinking
issue. The boats were boat going the same direction when Gordon's boat
made a sudden turn into the other boat. It looks like something broke
in the steering system.

Well ****, why tolerate a " thinly disguised race" ??
Why not just *HAVE* a race, a real race, with
official safety stuff, and lanes, and all the fixings ?

A race requires too many permits and approvals. Calling it a "Poker
Run" allows the whole thing to operate under the guise of a charity
event.

How much do you want to be that alcohol, and lots of it, as was the key

Well, from the info gathered, alcohol didn't have any part in the
accident, but now that you've mentioned it....

The article stated that they were investigating if alcohol was a factor. My
bet is was a major factor causing them to drive their go fast boats
recklessly and resulting in the fatal accident.

but now that you've mentioned it....

The assumption that there was drinking involved is one of
those knee-jerk things.

Guys who drive boats at 70mph feel the need to drink alcohol
while they do so.

Guys who drive 120mph+ feel the need to keep their heads
clear & reflexes sharp. Plus anybody who spends the kind of
time tuning up a boat like that must take it pretty seriously.

Yep, just another one of JimH's knee-jerk assumptions.

Interesting to note that most of the folks were up
there in age - over 50 etc.

Live long enough to be able to afford to die EXPENSIVELY, eh?

Funny thing is that speed is of no advantage for a "Poker Run." The last
boat to arrive can still win the pot...there's no need for a turbine powered
boat running at 100mph.

I'm no expert on poker runs but I've heard that the *real* event is
all about finishing first in a thinly disguised race, and that winning
the "pot" is a public relations after thought.

That would not surprise me, Everytime I have seen these guys on the
lakes I have been on they are running pretty fast for conditions. That
is to say they are not the only ones on the lake.
