Great article in the August Nor'Westing on radio procedure. I really get
tired of hearing the "Got your ears on" hails along with the "negative
contact, channel clear" waste of bandwidth.

Hope you are correct that boater education will improve that for the willing
to learn.

Haven't seen Chuck around lately. Is he on a trip or did he finally just
get sick of all the politics and name-calling?

He bailed out the day before you got back. Said something about being
sick of all the sheriffing in here.

He was doing most of the "sheriffing" around here, and that after he
bailed, it suddenly got worse.

Didn't he say that he was going on a trip in his newly refurbished
boat, and wouldn't be back for a while?

Yeah but did you have to tell John.

Do you find it a more agreeable place with the name-calling and mud
slinging?

I'd hope not.

Have you had your mom out on the sailboat? Just before my mom died, at age
75, she moved in with me. One day she asked for a motorcycle ride, so we
took off for the Snickersville Turnpike, one of my favorite short rides in
the area. She was thrilled, loving every minute of it.

Her days of boating are past. Arthritis in her knees makes her unsteady
so she uses a rollator (fancy walker) all the time.
She does love to go for drives though and will come with us on the 18th

youngest sister's 50th birthday get-together and pick up our new puppy.

Thanks. I wasn't fussy about getting a dog just yet but the wife got
really excited about it a few months ago. She was ready to pay for it
herself when mom passed her a cheque for the entire amount.
Guess all I'll have to do is walk it twice a day, feed it and cleanup
after it.

Just came back from a long ride over to Carver in the General Lee. The new

out of the blue I got a state trooper coming up behind me, lights flashing

thumbs up and took off.

I really wish they wouldn't do that.

It really wasn't a scare. It happened so fast I really didn't know what to
think, so I assumed he had some problem with the exhaust sound (it *is* a
bit loud) or maybe there was something wrong with the car.

I don't drive crazy in the old cars ... so if they are after me it's for

Funny that you say that. The true "muscle car" era was very short-lived.
It's origins was in the early 60's with limited availability to the
consumer - manufacturers had to build a minimum number of car models and
engines (427 Ford, 426 hemi Chrysler) engines a year to qualify as "stock"
for NASCAR racing purposes. The 1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO is considered by
many to be the first mass produced "muscle car". (It's an interesting story
how how John DeLoreon managed sneak that one by the Board of Directors at
Pontiac). But, by the end of the 60's the fed had started imposing emission
requirements that lowered compression ratios and horsepower. By 1972 there
was no longer a true stock "muscle car".

Now, within the past 5 years or so and due to advancements in engineering
and engine design, there are some current model cars that can outperform
their 1960 something counterparts. For example, the new Dodge Charger R/T
with the mini-hemi is faster than a '69 Charger R/T with the high output
440.
Not by much ... but it's faster and handles much better. Same is true of
the limited production version of the new GTO.

So .... you may be driving a muscle car and not even realize it.

Board of Directors at Pontiac). But, by the end of the 60's the
fed had
started imposing emission requirements that lowered compression
ratios and
horsepower. By 1972 there was no longer a true stock "muscle car".

Now, within the past 5 years or so and due to advancements in
engineering
and engine design, there are some current model cars that can
outperform
their 1960 something counterparts. For example, the new Dodge
Charger R/T
with the mini-hemi is faster than a '69 Charger R/T with the high
output
440.
Not by much ... but it's faster and handles much better. Same is
true of
the limited production version of the new GTO.

So .... you may be driving a muscle car and not even realize it.

Kevin, you and Don are quickly becoming the primary idiots of the
newsgroup. Neither of you knows when to shut up and let things *just
do by*.

Oh my! You're 'special' Bertie.

Don, do you attack everyone's typing mistakes, yours included? Do you
incessantly send letters to your local newspaper every time you find
an error in typesetting or a grammatical error?

If someone stutters while speaking do you attack them and say they are
"special?" Your pedantic ways are akin to Kevin's dogged attack of
anything and everything.

Do you, out of the blue, attack people and call them names?

I'm just letting you know that you are sinking into Kevin's class. As
other has said, you are better than that.

Yep. And that is the reason I will not buy a muscle car of any
type.
;-)

Funny that you say that. The true "muscle car" era was very
short-lived.
It's origins was in the early 60's with limited availability to the
consumer - manufacturers had to build a minimum number of car
models and
engines (427 Ford, 426 hemi Chrysler) engines a year to qualify as
"stock" for NASCAR racing purposes. The 1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO is
considered by many to be the first mass produced "muscle car".
(It's an
interesting story how how John DeLoreon managed sneak that one by the
Board of Directors at Pontiac). But, by the end of the 60's the
fed had
started imposing emission requirements that lowered compression
ratios and
horsepower. By 1972 there was no longer a true stock "muscle car".

This is classic!! How funny. Let's see, we've got Bert, who blindly and
ignorantly calls me Kevin every post, saying that *I* don't know when
to let things go!!! How stupid can it get, folks?

Something tell me Bertram is just getting started. Stay tuned folks,
it's cheap entertainment!

It's Berton! At least I don't sit around all day long posting to this
newsgroup like some of you.
