It got down-right nasty at times. It was when I was first getting into
newsgroups, using an IBM thinkpad with Windows--gosh, it might have
still been Windows 3.1--it was around 95 or 96 or 97--I know it was
before 98, because it was before my previous employer dumped my whole
department.

Windows 3.1. Arguably the best version of Windows ever released. I
used it on one machine until it just wouldn't work anymore with the
increasing complexities of programs.

Oh yeah?

Hardwa
386 processor
16MB memory
500MB Hard drive

OS:
Windows 2.0

Internet Connection:
300 baud modem

That baby flies! ;-)

I skipped the 386. Went straight from a Pal 286 running GeoWorks to a 486
with Windows and a blazingly fast 1200 baud modem. The Pal had an 8 Mhz
clockspeed with a "turbo" button that would boost it up to 12 Mhz. 40 MB
hard drive.
