I don't know if I can take much more.....
First the episode with the ignition switch on my son's car...$650
Next the boat engine overheats and who knows what that will cost. My wife calls me downstairs at about 9:30 this morning to find our basement flooded. The sump pump died and we had torrential rain all night. Our basement is finished and all the carpeting and baseboards are lost, perhaps even the lower course of drywall. Well I just got done installing a new 3/4 hp 4,800 gph unit and I have to wait to let it do it's job. More rain is on the way. What a wonderful holiday weekend. What a great vacation. What's next Lord? Come on......what's next!! |

What's next Lord? Come on......what's next!! The flood waters have risen too high for cars to drive though. The fire department stops and offers the man a ride to safety. He say, Thank you, but I'll trust in the Lord to save me. With the flood waters rising the rescue crew pulls up in a boat and offers the man a ride to safety. He says, Thank you, but I'll trust in the Lord to save me. The man is sitting on his roof to escape the flood waters. A rescue helipcopter flies over and the crew offers to take the man to safety. He say, Thank you, but I'll trust in the Lord to save me. The man drowns. At the gates to heaven the man asks St. Peter why the Lord failed him in spite of his faith. St. Peter says, He sent you a firetruck, a rescue boat, and a rescue helicopter. What more did you want! You're doing all right; you went out and got a new pump. Now start praying. Good luck, Jim. |

Unbelievable that some folks get some sort of twisted pleasure hearing of other folks problems. Instead of offering a word of hope they kick you in the balls with a smile on their face. Karma? My ass. Look within yourself Reggie for some compassion and understanding. Then go take a flying leap and screw yourself. I don't need that type of crap from you, especially today and especially after all the crap I just went through. Anyway....... Looks like the emergency work.........water extraction, carpet tear out and floor cleanup/disinfectant job........will run around $5,000 alone seeing it happened on a holiday. Then we have to replace the carpet and trim....probably another $2,500. Add to that the cost of the boat engine repair staring at me.........while having 2 kids in college. I bet that makes Reggie really happy. |

Jim, just be glad you were home to catch the basement flood. if you had been gone w/a faulty sump pump, and more wather coming in, you could have lost a heck of a lot mroe than just carpet and some dry wall. 20 years ago I was in the same situation, only it rained for about three days, and when I got home, the basement had 3 feet of water in it. And it kept raining. I waded through and set a sump pump up and anchored it with some cement blocks, ran the outlet tube out through a basement window, and ran an extension chord to an outlet in the garage, I wasn't going to plug it in while standing in water! That pump ran for a good two days, and cycled every 10 minutes for the next three. EVERYTHING in thebasement was lost. 19" color TV, washer , dryer, pool table, some of my wifes antiques, complete with ancient ceramic doll collection... gone. There is one, so if you can look on the bright side. JimH wrote: First the episode with the ignition switch on my son's car...$650 Next the boat engine overheats and who knows what that will cost. JimH, Try to go back and read my post again. I started off by saying "Sorry to hear about your problems." I then added some recommendations from insurance companies and their recommendations about mold after water damage and that you may need to replace your wallboard. This is someone who is going beyond just lip service, but is concerned about you and your family's long term safety. Black Mold can kill or cause severe health problems. I then made a comment about my persona belief about Karma. I was showing you compassion and understanding from my perspective. I do believe in Karma, and I do try to look inward when everything in my world seems to be going crazy. I would make that same suggestion to any one in my family who was had a similar rash of "accidents". Reread my comments and then read your response to my comment and ask yourself, is it possible that Karma may impact our life.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma You have had an extremely long rash of problems. I would think you would want to at least think about a concept that billions of people strongly believe in. If not, it is no big deal. I took it to mean than you & JohnH felt Jim deserved his misfortune because of his real or perceived past actions. If that's not what you meant..this twisted sailor withdraws his comment. Don, I believe in the concept of Karma and have seen it work in my life and in the life of others, and I am definitely not talking about whether Jim or anyone else deserves their misfortune. If you take a look at those you know well you will see some people who definitely have a black cloud that hang over their head. Tell her God Bless for caring. The universe is full of simple stuff but only
living stuff is worthy of care. Its "magic" far, far, beyond our ability to understand. The rest is just rocks. Hell, even I can reach a basic understanding of a rock; its hard and was formed thru opposing physical forces. See, I aint so dumb. "Harry Krause" wrote in message ... Yeah, I guess it is horse****. Yep, we (*he*in your world) has an endorsement to cover sewer and drain backup......$5,000 limit and it runs us $50/year. The cleanup cost alone will eat that $5,000 up. In case you forgot, today is a holiday. Sorry John, our new carpeting and trim comes out of our pocket, as does any furniture or other losses we will have seen. Happy? I know Reggie is. Some time ago, years maybe, I offered up an opinion on our boy "Reggie." Time has proven me correct. One would have to be pretty twisted to take my comments to mean I was joyful at JimH's misfortune. But, that 'twist' has shown itself in the past, so I shouldn't be surprised. Sewer and drain backup is not the same as sump pump insurance, which is a separate line in the insurance. I've gone through the flood in the basement, about six years ago. Carpets, furniture, walls, etc. ruined. The insurance paid for all but my $250 deductible. If JimH does not have the same coverage, which apparently he doesn't, then I'm sorry for him. But there is no call for his twisted accusations. -- John H ****************************************** ***** Have a Spectacular Day! ***** ****************************************** It *is* the same coverage with our insurance company and the only endorsement available. $5,000 limit. $50/year. What insurance company are you with that offers unlimited sump pump insurance coverage ($250 deductible) for $25/year John? I will contact them tomorrow and call all my family, friends and neighbors to sign up. Jim: your son called. His Democrat girlfriend is pregnant! :-) ROTF! Our son has a couple of girlfriends.............which one? Actually both of our kids are registered Democrats....................but we love them anyway. ;-) We are getting used to hearing the water extraction vacuum and hammers pounding removing the baseboards and carpet strips. To think we should be relaxing next to a pool with drinks in hand instead of going through this......... I will be calling John's insurance company tomorrow for that fantastic coverage he got. I hope he replies. ;-) It's been quiet around here. My lovely wife, the friend of animals everywhere (for which I adore her), was rescuing a hummingbird caught in our garage two weeks ago, had a ladder accident, and broke her ankle. She's got crutches and a Darth Vader boot instead of a cast, but isn't in the mood for line dancing, ice skating or much else. |

We were to be at a picnic at my sisters house and eating ribs for dinner. We had nothing planned so my wife cooked up that traditional American 4th of July dinner.......spaghetti and meatballs. ;-) A wise old fire chief once told me that life is nothing more than a series of problems to be solved. It seems that way at times. This was after a day when one of our long time members committed suicide followed by a chimney fire followed by another chimney fire followed by a fully involved house fire mixed in with two car accidents and three medical calls. And I was OOD for the Department that day. :) Not a good day. |
