The ETECs seem to be a pretty good motor with better than average reliability. They certainly are strong and have good HP to weight ratios. They still burn oil. Expensive oil. Yes, but over time, it's less expensive than regular oil changes for four strokes. 100 hours of operation burning 18 gph at 100:1 is 18 gallons of that stuff. At $32/gallon, that's $576...which is much more than it costs to replace the four-stroke oil and oil filter. Heck, I can go to the dealer and get the plugs changed, the lower gear oil changed, the engine oil changed, the oil filter changed, and all the fittings greased for about $500. But I suspect that the E-tecs burn a little bit more oil than 100:1...which means that the cost savings of a four stroke is even better. |
