Oh, I know..I know. But that "thanks" doesn't go unnoticed, and
sounds to me like they want to give the best service they can.

Thats still a great jesture of appreciation.

Nice gesture, for sure, but are you aware that in most decent restaurants it
is common practice for the waiters and/or waitresses to contibute a
percentage of their tips at the end of the day to a tip fund for the busboy?
I know, 'cuz I wuz one. (Les Shaw's in New Haven in the '60s)

I'm very well aware of the fund, 'cause I "wuz one" also. But the bus
kid is the one who has to clean up the slop, making sure the tables and
chair's/booth's/stools are sterile clean, at the same time risking
poking his/her hand with a used knife or fork with lord knows what kind
of DNA is on it etc..... And yes, the waiter/ess's are supposed to
kick in a fund, that's true. And don't get me wrong, I tip the
waiter/ess pretty good too.

But it's always cool to see the look in the bus-kid's eyes when a
patron goes out of the way to give him/her a generous tip . Just
something out of the ordinary seems to make the kids day a bit
brighter.

Here's a site I was combing for rememebring my college days of being a
short order cook (Sambo's) in one place, and busser in another
(Tresslers)...

Here's some thought about tipping the busser...

Cool!,
That little extra appreciation usually goes a long way. I,m sure they
will appreciate that. However, It may or may not go to future favors,
but at least they sould know that there efforts were recognized.

When I take the wife to a nice eat place, I usually single out the
bus-boy and give him a 5 or ten dollar tip. they look at me in shock. I
tell them they have a "thankless" job" and putting myself through
college, I've been there. They usually say something like "Wow, nobody
havse EVER doen anyting like that before. etc.etc." and in many times
they will take up the slack between a waiter/ess being overly busy .

Good generosity doesn't usually go overlooked.

It
will arrive by 11:30 this morning. ;-)

We got a Thank You note in the mail from the marina owner today. He said
the party tray was appreciated by all the employees and was a nice gesture,
especially considering the tough week they just went through.

Sometimes little things mean a lot, and that includes looking at it on both
sides of the fence. ;-)

Nice folks and we are happy to be a customer there.
