Default Rain.......

Heh... It hadn't rained here in weeks.

RIGHT up until my customer picked up his '74 Merc 1500 repowered '94
Bilgeliner Deckboat on Friday. (the original Force outboard failed and he
decided to power it right this time

Then *after* he bought gas, oil, live bait, ice, beer, etc etc and we headed
out on the lake for a shakedown cruise.... the skies opened..... and stayed
open all night long. We got 1.25 inches of rain. We needed it... but it
sure sucked for him. The rain held up just long enough for me to tweak it
and get back to my car at the ramp.

I've been sitting here on the boat since late Thursday morning. I planned
to leave yesterday to go home to do a few chores, but I rode the bike down
here and it's been down-pouring all weekend.

I keep looking at the local radar for this area, looking for a break in

the
rain/Tstorm bands where I could make a run for it. No significant breaks
yet.

Might have to suck it up, put on the rain slicker hanging in the closet

and
go for a wet, 45 mile ride.

Run the bike to heat up the pipes, and wipe with an old rag. You might
get lucky. I did. ;-)

Tried that as soon as I got home and noticed the rubber on the pipe. It
just sizzled the rag.

I think I'll try ice and try to rub it off with a wooden stick If that
fails using some 0000 grade steel wool and rubbing compound might do the
trick.

It's not much that got on the pipe and, in the worst case, it will
eventually burn off itself.

EZ Off Oven cleaner, follow the directions on the can.

Good idea. Won't harm the chrome, huh?

It might now that the pipes are cold. I'll try in the morning.

Got any non-purple plumber's pvc primer laying around? Might work. I
guess I did get lucky with the rag. There was still some discoloration,
but it eventually did go away, or at least, I stopped noticing it.

Try some GooGone. Don't take steel wool near the pipes or even near the
bike. If the GooGone doesn't work, I'd scrape most off and then use some
Never Dull.

I am more cautious with various chemicals than I am with steel wool which
I've used many times on chrome.
I am not talking about rough stuff. I am talking about 0000 or 00000 grade.
It doesn't scratch chrome and if you rinse the area off well, it leaves no
particles to rust on the surface.

I'm with John on this. Find something that will dissolve your rain suit then
try it on an inconspicuous spot on your chrome.
