Rain.......

I've been sitting here on the boat since late Thursday morning. I planned
to leave yesterday to go home to do a few chores, but I rode the bike down
here and it's been down-pouring all weekend.

I keep looking at the local radar for this area, looking for a break in the
rain/Tstorm bands where I could make a run for it. No significant breaks
yet.

Might have to suck it up, put on the rain slicker hanging in the closet and
go for a wet, 45 mile ride.

You on a Schwinn?

It's been raining here for 30 hours.

If I were riding a Schwinn I'd get home sometime in my next life.

BTW - you aren't thinking of a Nauset, are you?

Naw. Something with more of a legacy.

Very nice. It comes with a lot of freedom built in.

I'm really intrigued by the jet possibilities. I know there's been
substantial development in this area the last 10 years, but I really know
next to nothing about them. The idea of hardly any vulnerable running gear
hanging "down there" is very appealing.

I know little about them either. Last summer a guy stayed in the slip
beside me overnight. He was enroute delivering a new 36' Hinkley to Key
West. Although not his boat, he also personally owned an older Hinkley
Picnic with the jet drive.
I got to shooting the bull with him and he told me the new ones were really
optimized. Before he left the next morning he showed off a bit for me in
front of my boat demonstrating the Hinkley's manuverability. It was a
single jet with the 440 hp engine.

Raining here all weekend. I wanted to go pick up some gyproc at the
lumber store yesterday for my bathroom re-model project...but couldn't
figure a way to keep it dry. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

It has been dry here for the past 2 days. We would be on the boat but the
river and Lake are still full of debris from the storms and flooding.

More rain is forecast for us every day next week, including over the 4th of
July weekend. This really sucks.

Perhaps we are now in a La Niña cycle. As I understand it El Niño causes
dry hot weather, La Niña is wet cool weather.

Regardless, this continuous pattern of cool rainy weather sucks.

It'll be a good test of the raingear. Go for it. Think of me when that
first trickle starts down your back or your trousers. Good luck!

Hinckley is one of the reasons why I'm looking seriously at the jet
drive. They're certainly among the better builders, and if they're happy
with the concept, and have been for some years, then the jets must be
performing ok.

Are you planning to sell both boats, or just the Parker?

Made it home fine, although it poured all the way. I wore the yellow rain
gear I had on the boat (trousers with the bib and suspenders and the jacket)
and was perfectly dry. Only problem was slow moving traffic going over the
Sagamore Bridge (Cape Cod Canal). I didn't realize until I got home that
one leg of the rubberized trousers was in contact with one of the exhaust
pipes every time I had to put my foot down. The rest of the ride was 55-60
mph in torrential downpours.

Tomorrow's project is to scrape off all the yellow rubber stuck on the
pipes.
