Default New boat trailer

nice...Don, after doing some shopping, tell me...what makes a good
trailer?
3 - main things i should l@@k 4......thanx...

For me it was...
* strength of trailer. It had to be capable of carrying at least 50%
more weight than I would place on it.
* how it would cradle and support my boat's hull. I mulled for two
years if I should use rollers again (easier to launch/retrieve)..or
bunks (better support for long term storage of 7 months per year)
I finally compromised on a 'combo trailer'..bunks at the stern and
rollers forward.
*hot dipped galvanizing an absolute must due to at least half salt water
use.
*smaller items such as step bolted to mast to help me climb/crawl aboard
when solo launching, guide poles to help in recovers...and when backing
up empty trailer, larger wheels/tires with Bearing Buddies to keep
things cool on longer highway trips, telescoping tongue for shallow,
gravel beach launches, spare tire mounted on frame just in case, made
sure trailer no wider at fenders than old version (7 feet) due to narrow
10' 8" driveway alongside house...and of course I wanted a 2" coupler
this time...which comes anyway with a trailer rated anywhere near 2000 lbs.

Oh yeah.....
All fastened /bolted on parts readily available from domestic sources if
replacements needed. Nothing exotic.

Maybe I'm too far out of the loop, but C2,300.00 still seems a bit
steep to me.

Or , is that really about the going rate for a trailer like that?

$2300.00 CDN. Bit steep but it has capacity of approx double my boat
weight. i.e. 2200-2400 lbs vs boat weight of approx 1200.
The guy wanted to use 12' tires, but I insisted on 13" with 1300 lb cap
each...etc.

Yep...it's steep, but I've had other people with the same boat as mine
paying a similar price in Canada.
Don't know what a trailer like mine would cost south of the border.

ooops...just noticed..you're up here too!
I checked out the ShoreLander at a local dealer and the 'off the shelf'
unit without the add ons was about $500.00 cheaper. Once you started
adding.. eg.. swing away tongue at $208.00 the price creeped up.
