When was the first time you used it?

Used it when I was young to increase oil pressure in worn out VW engines. I
wonder what STP is made of? I'm thinking just thick oil.

I can't honestly remember when I first started using STP - still use
it in fact. If I had to venture a guess, it probably was somewhere
around 1959 or thereabouts when I learned how to drive on a 1/4 mile
dirt track in Franklin WI built around an old junkyard. Old Hudson
Hornet of all things - used to drive it around that track full tilt.
Learned a lot about engines, tires and transmissions when I was 13,
I'll tell you what.

One of the best commercials ever made was Andy Granatelli and the sumo
wrestler trying to hold onto the STP coated screwdriver.

Richard Petty once said that he and his racing family owed their
fortunes to Andy and I believe it. The whole Andretti family too.

Scientifically Treated Petroleum - STP.

An American success story.

I worked with Andy's nephew in the 1980's and heard some pretty amazing
stories (all positive) about Andy.

To side step................Famous products from my time..............

Never knowingly used the stuff, but loved to collect on post the stickers on
anything and everything when I was a kid.

I knew a *lot* of people who used STP, and pretty regularly. It was all
the rage for a while---
but then again, it was the 60's. :-)

They were great commercials, but:

What does this have to do with boats?
It's common courtesy in newsgroups to put OT (off topic) in front of
the header when posting about something that isn't in keeping with the
topics of the newsgroups.

During my "yute", glass packs were the rage. Can't remember who made
them now - advancing age.

I remember Baby Moon hubcaps were the big thing and if you were into
customizing, solenoid operated and reverse "suicide" doors were all
the rage.

Back then, fabrication of special body parts was all the rage. I
learned how to form a fender on a hammer press and that Hudson Hornet
looked pretty cool by the time I finally wrecked it. :)

Spark plug wired into the tailpipe......get going, shut off the
ignition, get lots of unburned fuel/air mixture into the pipes, fire
the plug in the tailpipe and watch the fire come out the back!
