Default Planes not boats.

Rather cool, to be out in the backyard this evening, and hear a large,
powerful airplane. Look up to see a B-24 flying around. Later a B-17
giving rides. They are at the Livermore Airport for the weekend.

To many ears, including mine, there is no sound in the world to match the
rumble of multiple large radials coupled to 12 - 16 ft propellers. It stirs
the soul.

When I was first in the air force, the area behind out shops contained some
Radials on stands. No one ever seemed to work on them, but were probably
just spares. There were a few C-124's still around.

Love the sound of radial engines! My uncle was a aviation machinist in
the Navy, then worked in the field after. When I was a kid I'd go to
work with him and hang at the airport maint. facilities all day.
