So much for 'Free Trade'. Canada had to agree to a cap of 34% of the US market. My question would be...if the US wasn't honorable with the original Free Trade Agreement, how can it be trusted to honour this agreement? http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/nation...ood060427.html Too bad. What are you going to do now, invade the US like the Mexicans have? Since our dollar is now over .89 US and rising...we'll just buy you out and send the republican supporters packing. (unless they see the evil of their ways & repent) The yacht brokers in the Pacific NW are all saying "Throw me in the briars!" Business is brisk right now with Canadian buyers. For the last 10 years or so, when the US dollar was a titan vs. the Canadian dollar, the Canadian brokers have all complained that they were running low on inventory as US buyers were crossing the border to scoop up boats that were artificially cheaper based on currency exchange rates. With NAFTA, any boat built in North America crosses the border duty free. The Canadians are down here now, buying everything in sight. Lots of boats going north again. Oh well, we'll have to wait a year of two until the US buck gets stronger again and then some of the same boats will once again turn around and head south. And don't speak too harshly about those Republicans. You can thank the current congress and administration's fiscal irresponsibility and record breaking deficit spending for driving down the US dollar to be close to par for you guys. If we don't get some fiscally responsibly leadership in DC soon (from either or any party), you'll need a wheelbarrow full of yankee dollars to buy a cubic foot of Canadian natural gas. |

Bush is actually a Canadian spy, don't ya know. We knew we'd look good in comparison. In fact, during your last election I remember saying - "Well, Bush may be bad for the planet, but he is GOOD for Canada." It's an ill wind and all that . . . On cue, our manufacturing and tourism people are now crying and moaning about the strength of our dollar. They say sales will start to drop off as our goods become more expensive. Tourism is down as many Americans find that Canada isn't the cheap deal it once was. Then we have Bush's new law requiring a passport or expensive identity card for US citizens to get back into their own country. Land of the Free indeed! What our tourism people fail to see is that Americans, on the whole, aren't going anywhere anymore. Pansies! |

The law doesn't specifically require a passport. The standard is that you must be "able to prove to the satisfaction of the Customs examiner" that you are a US citizen. Depending on the mood or motivation of the individual customs examiner, this can vary between a simple verbal interview, "Where were you born, how long were you in Canada, what are you bringing back? Ok, have a nice day" to a full blown third degree with "park your car and bring your papers to the office". The reason the passport has become the default document is that everybody, (even Customs examiners), is expected to accept a valid US Passport as proof of citizenship. Sometimes you can get by with a driver's license and a copy of a birth certificate. (You can usually get by with a photo ID and a copy of the birth certificate for your own minor children travelling in your company). But if you get a grumpy examiner who wants to put you through the most extreme number of hoops, a passport is going to be needed to prove citizenship. |

Are you referring to the current situation or the upcoming draconian state? http://tinyurl.com/e6pdo I'm referring to the current situation, which is what your tourism folks, marinas, etc are wailing about. How many provinces you got up there? We could use a few more states. We'd get your natural resources (and it would take a couple of generations to waste them as completely as we have wasted those below the 49 N.) In return, of course, you would get unfettered traffic of people and commerce across the entirely erased border. And just think, you would wake up some morning and realize that your national leader was George Bush! Let me ask you, what could possibly be better than that? :-) |

I think our tourism people are pulling a 'sky is falling' scenario in anticipation of the 'dark day' when your new ID Card law comes into effect. Let me see..what could compare with Bush being my president...? How about a naked swim in our polluted harbour in January? |

WA isn't an option on the automatic fill list, and can't be entered manually. However, I sent you a modest amount using the state designation AA as a substitute for WA. I did get a receipt, but who knows if it will really take with the bogus state address on the charge card? If the donation comes through, please match it. |
