I'm not sure we can make a dent in demand anymore. I might be wrong, but
I think the demand for oil in China (if that is a true assertion) will
outstrip any decreased demand in the U.S. My take is that we need a fuel
source that we can make in the U.S. from U.S. resources owned by U.S.
companies.

I find that attitude disturbing. In effect, you're saying that Americans
can't be counted on to do much of anything except bitch & whine. What's
interesting, though, is that nobody's asked us to do anything different.
Politicians are afraid to mess with The Religion.

Harry, I am curious. Why are you starting all this political crap
again?

Gas prices impact boating in a serious way. Ignore at your peril.

Harry, I agree that gas prices and availability are significant
boat-related issues. What's more interesting to me than bush-bashing is
the idea of a hydrogen-dependent economy and how to convert gas and
diesel
powered boats to hydrogen powered boats when the time comes (if ever).

I also wonder at what point the price of gas will make an alternative
fuel
such as hydrogen and conversion of our infrastructure financially
feasable.

I also wonder if hydrogen is feasable mechanically and if it is truly
renewable.

I wonder if lack of demand can actually affect fuel prices. I mean, I keep
hearing that prices are rising because of higher demand from China. And,
in
theory, Americans would prefer that prices be lower. I think I'm right
about
that, but I could be wrong. Somebody let me know if I'm wrong about that,
OK?

So, if we'd like prices to be lower, I wonder why so many people are doing
the exact opposite of what it takes to make that happen.

Work and pleasure, the two major consumers. Maybe that's why.

You're a teacher. Would your work be affected in any way by driving to work
in an Impala or Camry, instead of perhaps a Suburban?

People who want to lose weight still eat donuts.

Many who complain about high unemployment support paying those who
don't work.

Such illogic abounds.

Yeah. Let's all buy an Escalade or a Suburban, even if we're single
and never haul anything bigger than 3 bags of groceries.

Whom do you nominate to be the Minister of Vehicular Appropriateness?

You, at some point in the future. Eventually, people will stop believing
this next personal rule:

"All petroleum usage is part of the concept known as 'demand'. There are no
exceptions. Except MY petroleum usage".

I do not choose to serve, for I did not make the suggestion that such an
authority, presumably with punitive powers, be created. Please try again.

I suggest that you serve as your own best advisor, and you choose not to?
What's left? Mommy and Daddy? God? A dog who talks to you in private
moments? A ouja board & tarot cards? You're not accustomed to the idea of
making better decisions for yourself, because there has never been a leader
who has asked you to do it. Kennedy suggested it when he said "And so, my
fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can
do for your country."

Eventually, people will stop
believing this next personal rule:

"All petroleum usage is part of the concept known as 'demand'. There

This has little relevance to your proposal to ban certain vehicles. Why
do you wish to do so, and how logistically do you propose to execute your
plan?

I have no wish to ban certain vehicles. You and a few others here like to
read that into my statements. I want to see consumers bring the numbers of
certain vehicles back down to a level which reflects the actual need for
them. I'll play Kennedy here and assume that you can analyze that statement
using your head instead of your genitals.

My Moto Guzzi gets over 50 mpg. Stop complaining.

There's no reason to demonstrate that you're a total ass, unless that's
the only thing you're capable of demonstrating.

With the unlimited words and sentences at your disposal, your choice of
those quoted above shows that that's exactly what you are.

I shant communicate further with you.

I think that has been the conclusion for most of us here.

Doug has not posted since about 3:30 p.m. today and must be on 3rd shift. I
think he previously stated he was a stockboy for a grocery store so I am
sure he is at work now.

Good. You had nothing of value to contribute anyway.

This is irresistible:

You go to your doctor for a checkup. He does the usual routine, and tells
you that your liver is enlarged. He asks how much booze you consume. Then,
he says this:

"You really should cut your alcohol consumption down by at least half".

What does he mean by that? What is your interpretation of that last
sentence, beginning with "You really should...." ?

I would guess he is trying to be diplomatic...seeing as so many of the
'hard cases' here bristle if someone dares tell them what to do....even
if it is for their own good.
