Some laws are written to protect the insane, e.g. helmet laws for
motorcyclists. Without the law, some fools would actually ride without
a
helmet!
--

Far fewer states require helmets for motorcyclists than those that
require seat belt use.

Do you wear leather when you ride?

Only on the very few occasions that I ride when it's 60 degrees or colder.
Used to do more cold weather riding, but not much anymore.

In really hot weather, like in Florida, I often wear shorts and a
tee-shirt. And no helmet.

RCE

As Perry Mason often said................I rest my case. ;-)

And also used to raise money. Buddies stopped at a diner in Oregon.
Realized they could not see the bikes from the window. Moved them 200' to
the other side of the building via the public street. TICKET as they did
not put on the helmets. Tell me that is not just to raise money for the
state?

Like seat belts, I think wearing helmets on motorcycles should be encouraged
but not mandatory by law, with the decision made by the individual.

Motorcycle helmet laws originated with the federal government in 1967.
States were pressured to enact helmet laws or risk becoming ineligible for
certain federal safety program and highway construction funds. By 1975 all
but three states had helmet laws.

Congress voted to remove the federal pressure in 1978 and since then more
than half of the states have eliminated universal helmet use requirements.
Currently, 21 states have universal helmet use requirements. Several others
have helmet requirements for riders and passengers in the 17-20 year old age
group. Interesting.

I use seat belts sometimes when I think I should and I wear a helmet when
riding if the state I am in requires it, or otherwise I think I should.
There are many times when, depending on where I am driving or riding and how
I am driving or riding that I don't wear either.

No sermon. No helmet. No leather. *Riding* in tee shirts and cut-offs.

Reminds me of a Beach Boys song about riding Honda's on the
beach..............

Have a good one Richard. No hard feelings, just stating my opinion as a
*rider*. ;-)

Why should I care what your opinion of my riding habits are? I never asked
you for them.
If you notice, I am not critical of those who choose to wear seat belts or
wear helmets. I am just opposed to government dictating our lives
unnecessarily.

You need to learn to pick your own nose instead of trying to pick everybody
else's.

Why do you once again want to turn this into a personal attack Richard? We
disagree..............so what. Life goes on.

A recent highway census in CT showed that 80% of out of state
transient riders didn't wear their helmet while on CT roads. 90% of
instate riders didn't wear their helmets.

It's not mandatory in CT.

Says something about those folks riding in CT, doesn't it? Although, I'll
admit it's probably not the 'macho' thing to do.

Are you asking Rich or me? I wear a leather or an Aerostitch jacket,
usually the Aerostitch with the padding.
