Was the mechanic who showed me the records for his yearly service on the 1990 Chris-Craft lying when he told me "The OMC cobra is good motor and outdrive" I have no idea if 1990 was a good year or a bad one....? It's a Chevrolet 350 engine, same as a Merc. The 5.8 Ford was also offered some years in the Cobra. The drive is better than the antiquated Alpha 1 in many regards, I would have no problem buying one, but I do most of my own work and know where to get parts. The Alphas, when they get this old, get pretty loose & "cluncky" - more than new. The Cobra drive leg design was incorporated into the Volvo SX series with their cone clutch when Volvo aquired the OMC outdrive division. There is still a familial resemblance. I'd take the Cobra drive on the Glastron given my druthers. Rob |
