Hi all
I have a yanmar 12 yse 1977 .The alternator is 25A (the original one) and it is connected directly to a Battery separator, where both the domestic and engine battery poles are connected. There is no sign of a regulator ,which was in the drawings ,so i take it the last owner changed the system. So it is working so far ,but as the power requirements are higher now in the med,we want to see if we will benefit from installing one of these alternator management systems/boosters/or whatever else they call this thing that claims to increase by 5 times the alternator output. Anyone who has experience on using these things?Do you have one on your boat? Are they doing what they claim to do for the cost of 200-300 pounds? I ve seen so far 3 types, one that the installation seems complicated but it is cheaper than the one that says easy installation (both from sterling )Difference in price 100 pounds. Also there is the issue of whether i should remove the battery separator (which is rated for a 55A alternator ),or should i add the management system in line?Would it work without an altarnator regulator ? Please help!!!!!! Batery bank 200Ah domestic/44 Angine. The idea is that for 50Ah a day we need we will have a solar panel 40W to produce maybe 10 to 20 Ah a day ,and the rest with 30 minutes engine running we can top up. Is our idea OK or are we going towards a dead end ?Is there some other solution? Bigger alternator seems not a solution as the space we have in the engine room doesnt allow bigger diameter for the alternator. The one we have is as i said 26A with a distance of 14cm between the 2 holding bolts. The ones i ve seen advertised are 16 ,and this is a space we dont have.Anyone lknows of smaller but higher output alternators that could be fitted on my old engine? |
