I had a stress test this morning....lasted 14 minutes on the treadmill and
my heart was assessed to be in great condition. If you ever had one of
these tests you will know that lasting more than 10 minutes is doing
pretty good.

I walk 30-35 minutes on the treadmill or outside at least 5 days/week at
a fairly brisk rate (3.9 mph) and the doctor attributed the health of my
heart in part to that activity.

Next Friday is a colonoscopy..........oh how I am looking forward to
that. ;-(

I guided a patient through a long series of pulmonary diagnostic tests and
when he was done he said, "That wasn't too bad; better than a
colonoscopy!"

Another patient being assessed for heart function demonstrated excellent
aerobic capacity and his only physical activity is a 30 minute walk twice
a day with his dog.

Keep up the good work; it's surprising how little it takes to maintain
good general health. And 10 minutes on a stress test protocol isn't too
shabby. Prevention and maintenance, just like with the boats (now it's on
topic), pays big. With big pay offs especially noticeable in the later
years; sort of like a choice between a painful crawl to the finish line or
a pleasant jog.

Bryan

Bryan, are you a medical doctor, technician or RN?

A couple of years ago, my doctor said, "it's time" I said, "please,
no, I think I'd rather have a male doctor."
Here's the story. My doctor is young and cute. I chose her only
because our family doctor of over 18 years was retiring. Additionally
I chose her because she had gone to my school. Well, her looks helped
too!
So she looks at me and says "look at my little fingers (holding up her
hand with her fingers spread out) now, would you want a male doctor
whose fingers are twice my size?"
I let her do it.

I'd be in deep trouble. I am too young for that.

It's a tough call between a male doctor and a female doctor. Bottom line
(no pun intended, this time), try different doctors until you find the one
that makes sense for you. I've been in a teaching hospital for 25 years;
It doesn't matter, male or female, as long as they are a good doctor and
you're comfortable with them. Oh yeah, and that goes for ethnic or national
background as well. Just as long as it's not that socialized medicine.
--- Just kidding; just wondering if the Canadians are listening.

I appreciate what you're saying but it's kind of funny in a way.

There used to be a lot of half joking statements at one time like
"never go to anyone but a jewish doctor" or "never go to a doctor
younger than you are".

I could go without care for a long time following that advice these
days.

LOL! I know what you're talking about. It's gotten to the point where the
new residents, each year, are old enough (young enough) to be my first born.
Sheesh! Talk about the effects of saying yes sir to some young punk when
we're in front of patients. ; )

I didn't and I'm not going to. You just made me think about something: my
son's best friend's mom is Canadian!

Well, put OT in front of it and tell some stories. Apparently I have
nothing else to do today. I'm listening.

What a temptation to say something...

During my last, very rare visits to a doctor several years ago he scheduled
me for one of those. I still haven't shown up for it.

The worst part of a colonoscopy is the 'purging' which must be done the
night before. If you survive that, the actual procedure is a breeze.

I had my first one this year, due to a bout of Diverticulitis.

It was easier than getting my teeth cleaned. I went to sleep in the
"procedure room" and woke up in the recovery room.

The only complaint I had was I felt like someone owed me a dinner and a
movie.

A prostrate biopsy is much, much worse!
