Word is New Jersey transplants were responsible for the destruction.
Seems that with the European turmoil during the thirties and fourties,
masses of these East Europeans migrated to New Jersey. Story is most
fished with huge trot lines tied around 55-gallon oil drums. Problem
was, they only ate gefilte fish, so everything else was thrown overboard
as bycatch. They soon decimated the native Atlantic cod population.

Many of these gefilte specialists then migrated to the DC area to take
advantage of government jobs. Well, you know what happened next, the
Chesapeake was also devasted by their techniques. With Northern Altantic
and Chesapeake waters ruined, they then invaded Floriduh. Yep, you know
it, those waters have now been ruined.
