The only time I would sail a narrow channel would be under uncrowded
conditions where you would have plenty of room to stay clear of a tacking
sailboat or if I did not have power. I do not find it agreeable to sail
narrow channels when unnecessary due to the overwhelming presence of

Plus, if you check the regs, it's illegal for a sailboat with power to be
under sail only in a crowed, narrow harbor channel.

I'm not familiar with that rule, but it wouldn't apply to my style of
sailing anyway. It just makes sense to save the sailing for outside the
breakwater on a busy day.
