Grin, Christmas shopping is a relatively new aspect of celebrating
Christmas. Dec. 25th was chosen by Constantine because it was the date many
pagans celebrated the winter solstice.

All I have to say is if you have snow outside on Dec.25th, you live too far
to the north.

No, I'm right. Make a list of things you'd NEVER want to do on Dec 25th,
assuming the things on the list were optional, and you lived in the snow
belt. I'm sure that optional shopping would be on the list.

JimC,
Why is the fact that Dec. 25th is not the actual birthday of JC matter?
I don't think anyone really thinks 12/25 is his birthday, they use that
annual date to celebrate his birth. It is very common among parents
who adopted children from overseas, to designate a date to celebrate
the child's birthday. They know it is not the actual date, but it
allows them to celebrate their child's birthday. Why is this so hard
to understand?

In my opinion, whoever picked Dec 25 either lived in a warm climate, or
was totally insane. No normal person wants to slog through winter slop
to go shopping.

Harry,
No where did Jesus say you must be perfect to be a Christian. In reality,
Jesus assumed no man could be perfect, that all men were imperfect by the
nature of man and original sin.

Don't you mean, you say you are a Christian. If your statements and
behavior here are indicators, you are not following the teachings of
Jesus.

If must have been the big reatilers, they needed a big shopping push to fill
their coffers before the end of the 4th quarter.

Harry, you need a new line. The one above is getting old and is borne of
ignorance.

You don't have to convince me of that fact! I fully understand the myth

No one forces you to go to a Christian Church. So how is that forcing his
beliefs on you? Same as Wal-Mart, or Macy's with their ads forcing shopping
at those stores on you.

Bill, I was being facetious. JC often makes the claim about Christians.

I suspect more than 90% celebrate Christmas, but then you don't need to be
a Christian to celebrate it, do you? According to the CIA factbook, only
80% of the population is Christian.

Protestant 52%, Roman Catholic 24%, Mormon 2%, Jewish 1%, Muslim 1%,
other 10%, none 10% (2002 est.)
