I'll ask again. Do you find it above board, a nice, friendly gesture,
and not low classed to bring someone's long dead parents into a
discussion, just because you don't know what you are talking about?

I certainly see nothing wrong with referring to a person's father or mother in a
non-derogatory manner, whether they are alive or dead.
