Hi all,
I am considering a 1987 Celebrity 210 Cuddy. It comes with a Mercruiser 5.7L Sterndrive. I learned my 100HP Johnson through a painful and costly process. (Works perfect now!) Any pointers from you gurus? I know nothing about Stern drives. -- Best Regards, Frank |

The boat itself, like many of its era, has problems with floor rot. Check for any soft areas. It is a fiberglass over plywood construction with foam filling between the floor bottom and hull. Any water that gets into the floor can't get out and rots the floor. Nasty job to repair. On mercruser outdrives check the boots. Any cracks and they will need to be replaced. If outdrive has been left in the raised position for a long time they will probably be cracked. Push the drive back and forth. There should be very little play. There is a rectangular drive that fits into a rectangular hole in the outdrive. This area rounds over, in time, getting sloppy. Eventually it will round so much there will be no steering. These boats wander a lot at low speed and so you use a lot of steering. They are so nimble on plane, though. |
