I wouldn't chance it. Water in your gear oil can kill your outdrive. Do
you know what part is stripped? Is it the dipstick or the cover? There are 4 or 5 bolts that hold that cover on (where the dipstick screws into), and you can either have it re-threaded, or purchase a new one. I would want peace-of-mind, and purchase a new one. "Larry Crowe" wrote in message ... Have a Volvo SX Cobra outdrive that I over tightened the outdrive oil dipstick and managed to strip the inter threads. The stick sorta tightens buts spins if I apply pressure. Thought about some teflon tape. It doesn't appear to leak. This is a new/used boat to me and I was trying to do the proper maintenance thing. Suggestions for repair would be appreciated. Also do I risk any harm running in this condition ? Thanks Larry |
