Mercruiser 165 HP Starter
I'm having a problem with my 1987 165 Mercruiser starter. To make a
long story short, my neighbor pulled out my old started and installed a rebuilt one last year, but we never got a chance to finish the wiring. He has since moved away and I hooked up the wiring myself. The problem is that the start works OK, but it's not turning the engine. It sounds like it's "throwing" and spinning fine, but nothing on the engine is turning. I'm guessing I have the wrong starter for this engine, but I want to be sure I wired it correctly. Please check this picture at the link and let me know if I've wired the starter incorrectly. http://members.cox.net/jmal1/index.htm Thanks! Joe (remove # signs) |

Update:
Wrong starter: installed the correct one and it started up without a problem. Now it's time to tackle the rotted floor. |
