Hi all
Maybe Peggie H will respond I just bought a used boat that has a Sealand Vaccu flush system. It works, however, the pump makes squeaking noises. anything I can do for preventative maintenance to stop the squeaking, outside of pulling the unit? THanks M |

VacuFlush pumps don't require any preventive maintenance 'cuz there are no moving parts in the pump that can wear or require lubrication, only a bellows in the pump that the motor drives up and down. The manual (if the PO didn't keep it, call SeaLand and get one...it covers just about every symptom, possible causes and cures a VacuFlush can develop) lists 6 possible reasons why the pump would make noise other than the normal "CHUNkaCHUNkaCHUNKa" of the bellows...only one (dirt or debris in the bellows housing, which is unlikely to produce a squeaking sound) isn't in the motor or gearbox. The two most likely to cause a squeaking sound are a worn teflon bushing or a worn or defective gear motor. I don't see any way out of pulling the pump out to find the cause and fix it...however, I strongly recommend that you call SeaLand before doing anything...800-321-9886. If they tell you it needs a new motor or anything else that will cost you more than about $100, get back to me before spending it...'cuz there may be a better solution. Thanks for the reply
I have no idea how old it is , I do know that it did sit (in storage) for 2 years, unused. It does draw a vaccum, you just hear a SQUEEK...... SQUEEK, as the pump is runnine Thanks Peggie On Sun, 20 Jun 2004 15:58:15 GMT, Peggie Hall wrote: g wrote: Hi all Maybe Peggie H will respond I just bought a used boat that has a Sealand Vaccu flush system. somehow my holding tank has emptied itself and was collecting in the rear
bilge compartment. we thought originally that it was a slow "oil" leak from just having tke oil changed, but after flushing out the bilge it came back.... planning that it was getting time to pump out the holding tank which had been 3/4 full was now less than 1/4 full what could make this happen. it's installed in a 1999 2600 martinique with 175 hours and not a lot of use to the toilet system... could there be a hole or crack in the tank? or maybe a paper clog? what do you suggest? Could be. or maybe a paper clog? what do you suggest? Tom Pump it out. Throw a bottle of food coloring into the tank, and then fill up the tank with fresh water. Look around the edges of the tank itself for the appearance of red, yellow, blue, or green liquid- you'll know that's coming from inside the tank. Check your hoses, and most especially your hose connections for the tell tale color. Once you have found the defect, make a note of it. Then pump the colored water out of the tank, flush out the bilge before the food coloring "sets" into the glass, and finally proceed to replace or reconnect your problem. (Unless somebody has been stepping on the tank to get aournd the engine, the tank itself is most likely OK) |
