Default Power Trim problem: Motor comes up when putting in reverse

NO... this unit does not latch in reverse. It is all hydraulic. The
tilt pin only limits the downward travel if it is installed or retained
at all. The latching mechanism, present on the outboard, is disabled
when the power trim & tilt unit is installed - all the parts are there
and intact, it is just blocked from being used, into the "Release"
position, with the trim brackets installed.

I agree. I have a '79 Johnson 115. There is a soleniod valve in the
hydraulics that closes only in reverse if my memory serves. I do know for
sure on my '79 it is in the hyrdraulics.
Now if I could find my repair manual.....
