As stated before. Two parts to winterizing - Freeze and inactivity.
Inactivity is not your issue. Freeze is not an issue w/ an outboard either unless you have water in the gearcase or oil (on a 4 stroke). Do this at the start of winter each year. 1. Drain and refill lower unit grease verifying no water in it. 2. Drain and refill engine oil verifying no water in it. These should be replaced once a year or more frequenty (depending on use) anyway. Also make sure you store the engine w/ the foot all the way down so the block does not hold water and the lower unit does not trap water. -- Tony my boats at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "Shakeel" wrote in message om... Hello All I live in Northern California (Sacramento Region) and possibly will be getting into a fish/ski boat (outboard 115hp 4 stroke) this summer. I have 2 questions regarding winterizing. BTW, my boat will be on a trailer parked outdoors with cover. 1. I plan on doing some fishing in the winter months. If I use my boat in the lake, lets say once every month in winter here, do I still need to winterize my boat ? 2. How long can I go between lake runs before winterizing is needed ? Thanks for any help |
