Default OT - What do polls really mean?

Last night I was called by a pollster. He asked, "If the election were held
today, would you vote for Bush or Kerry?"

I almost said, "Bush." But then I thought, "Why tell them how I would vote. For
what will the information be used?"

If Bush is leading in the polls, Kerry tells more lies to swing things his way.
If Kerry is leading in the polls, then Bush will have to work a little harder to
get things his way, and maybe Kerry will relax a little.

When the polls show Kerry ahead, all the liberals here are rejoicing, spreading
the news, laying back drinking a Bud, celebrating the good life. But when the
polls show Bush in the lead, the snarling, wailing, gnashing of teeth, and
general displeasure show up in the liberals comments in the group. Dean showed
his true colors when things looked good for him. Kerry tends to do the same.

So...I said I'd vote for Kerry.

I wonder how many others are doing the same thing.

I don't know. This is the first year in memory that I think my vote just
does not matter.

You mean, you wonder how many people think it's actually honorable to
lie, and encourage others to, and then brag about it?

Why don't you just say it the other way, the same as your comment
about Kerry, in that, if Kerry is leading, Bush will tell more lies to
swing things HIS way?

When the polls show Kerry ahead, all the liberals here are rejoicing, spreading

Again, why not say, when Kerry is ahead, the republicans are snarling,
wailing, etc.? You are just like Hannity, I was listening to his
drivel the other day, and he, at the top of his lungs (you could just
SEE him spitting on his mike) calling liberals names, yelling, acting
all flustered, all the while complaining about liberals being
"shrill". I actually laughed out loud, because the republicans are too
damned blind or stupid to see this sort of thing.

So...I said I'd vote for Kerry.

I wonder how many others are doing the same thing.

John H

yeah, sure John.
