What boat - beautiful! Terrific dinner company too. It was fun to meet and greet somebody off the list. Glad to hear that you folks hooked up. I hope Wayne and his wife are enjoying their trip to the NE. |

Glad to hear that you folks hooked up. I hope Wayne and his wife are
enjoying their trip to the NE. We are indeed. Four months on a boat is a long time but it has gone amazingly fast. Next stop is Essex, CT which is another of our favorite places. The plan is to hang out in Long Island Sound until the worst of the hurricane season is over, and then start making our way south again. |

Tom,
If I understand you correctly, Usenet is the correct name for the method of compiling and distributing Newsgroups/Lists/Electronic Bulletin Boards. Newsgroups/Lists/Electron Bulletin Board can be read via Newsgroup Readers, Web Sites such as Google, or Email Distributions Lists. Since original most newsgroups were read via Email Distribution Lists, old farts like yourself, sometimes call them "Lists". ; ) Did I get that correct? "Shortwave Sportfishing" wrote in message ... List is a old timer's term for Usenet newsgroups because back in the day, email "lists" were the newsgroup of their day. Thus the term. |

Newsgroups, mailing lists, and bulletin boards are all different. Mailing lists came first, and in some cases were replaced by newsgroups dealing with the same subject matter. Bulletin boards sprung up with the low end PC, and are now primarily accessed by means of the world wide web, having evolved to a webserver based technology. Mailing lists use email as a transmission medium. Newsgroups use a collection of News Servers, connected by NNTP, and bulletin boards use the world wide web. del cecchi |

Del,
Thanks for clearing that up, it is now clear as mud. I was correct though when I said "old farts" still refer to them as Lists. ; ) -- Starbuck .... Art is vision not expression.
