Probably something like a bilge de-watering pump float switch or fume
sniffer or some other insignificant item.

Being a good techie luddite, I never trusted such things as float
switches. All it has is a single on/off switch on the panel. I am so
distrustful of complicated stuff that I dont even have shore power.

Float switches are very good. Just wire in parallel to a dash switch, Use
a lighted dash switch and the light will come on when the float switch
activates. Then when you do not notice the boat taking on water, the pump
will start dewatering earlier than you will engage the switch.

Maybe you need a 25-yr-old "dumpster-boat". The VHF has always worked on
mine...

Then again, you're always praising the Wonders of Warranties - can't you
just wave your warranty over the radio and it will magically start working?
