Whyt I hate boat electric problems...

Schematic?

Now, since every other accessory circuit on the boat was working, what the
hell was NOT working because of the first blown fuse I found?

Your Smithers filter?

My VHF blew its fuse earlier this week for reasons unknown. Well, I
assumed it did, because it suddenly stopped working. When I took it home
and plugged it into my 12V battery eliminator, it fired right up.

So I went poking around the fuse panel. First accessory fuseholder I
opened had a blown fuse, so I replaced it. No joy with the radio.
Obviously, another fuseholder, so I kept on looking and found the devil.

Grrrr.

Have you got a diagram/list of what is on each fuse/circuit breaker?

Trust me...you're better off not knowing.

Harry,
I have always been so polite to you, why the attitude?

A piece of garbage who logs on here with 50 or 60 different handles and
tries to stir the crap he carries with him into the newsgroup.

I do for what the manufacturer installed.

Wonder if it's the same procedure you'd use in your house? Pull a fuse
and try every piece of equipment on the boat.
What doesn't work gets added to the list for that circuit. Then you
re-install the fuse and see if the stuff assigned to that circuit now
works. Repeat for all circuits. How many are on your panel?

Dealer installed, yer screwed. I bet they didnt even use the right
color wires. Your just gonna have to get out the old VOM.
I gotta do something similar this weekend. My bilge pump doesnt work,
doesnt even read 12V at the pump, weird, gotta be a break somewhere
where the wire runs through stuff. Gonna have to somehow snake in new
wires.
Could it have been a voltage transient from a nearby lightning strike,
somebody start up a big pump etc? You'd think it woulda fried the
electronics 1st though.

good luck

Probably something like a bilge de-watering pump float switch or fume
sniffer or some other insignificant item.

Being a good techie luddite, I never trusted such things as float
switches. All it has is a single on/off switch on the panel. I am so
distrustful of complicated stuff that I dont even have shore power.
