What was the amperage of the fuse? Did you check the lights? Panel
lights? Bilge pump? Live well pumps? Wash down system?

'Wash down system'? You powerboaters kill me!

Real boats have blood on their decks.

Oh hell, is that why my boat has removable carpet? Now you tell me! ;-)

Being a good techie luddite, I never trusted such things as float
switches. All it has is a single on/off switch on the panel. I am so
distrustful of complicated stuff that I dont even have shore power.

Float switches are very good. Just wire in parallel to a dash switch, Use
a lighted dash switch and the light will come on when the float switch
activates. Then when you do not notice the boat taking on water, the pump
will start dewatering earlier than you will engage the switch.

My VHF blew its fuse earlier this week for reasons unknown. Well, I
assumed it did, because it suddenly stopped working. When I took it home
and plugged it into my 12V battery eliminator, it fired right up.

So I went poking around the fuse panel. First accessory fuseholder I
opened had a blown fuse, so I replaced it. No joy with the radio.
Obviously, another fuseholder, so I kept on looking and found the devil.

Now, since every other accessory circuit on the boat was working, what
the hell was NOT working because of the first blown fuse I found?

Grrrr.

Have you got a diagram/list of what is on each fuse/circuit breaker?

I do for what the manufacturer installed.

Maybe you need a 25-yr-old "dumpster-boat". The VHF has always worked on
mine...

Then again, you're always praising the Wonders of Warranties - can't you
just wave your warranty over the radio and it will magically start working?
;)

Anytime we needed 'wash down water' we threw a bucket attached to a line
over the side. Trick was to pull it back up at about 80% full...before
the drag added to the weight. (while underway).

Harry,
Why do you insist on this name calling, it ruins the tone of rec.boats.

Smithers using the "Starbuck" handle besmirches the name of the first mate
aboard the Pequod, Captain Ahab's ship in Moby-Dick. The literary Starbuck
was a man of integrity and honor. The one who plagues rec.boats is a piece

Harry,
PS - I was surprised that your memory was able to jog up your reading from
Freshman English. That is one of the amazing things about "Somehimzer's",
you may not remember what you said yesterday, but you can remember in detail
those things that happened 40 yrs ago.
