http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisi...sianaMandatory evacuation ordered for New Orleans8/28/2005, 10:48 a.m. CTThe Associated PressNEW ORLEANS (AP) - In the face of a catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, amandatory evacuation was ordered Sunday for New Orleans by Mayor Ray Nagin.Acknowledging that large numbers of people, many of them stranded tourists, would be unable to leave, the city set up 10 places of last resort forpeople to go, including the Superdome. The mayor called the order unprecedented and said anyone who could leave thecity should. He exempted hotels from the evacuation order because airlineshad already cancelled all flights.Gov. Kathleen Blanco, standing beside the mayor at a news conference, saidPresident Bush called and personally appealed for a mandatory evacuation forthe low-lying city, which is prone to flooding.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Why did it take President of the United States to convince Gov. Blanco andMayor Nagin that a mandatory evacuation was a good idea?If Bush hadn't called, imagine how many more would have died. At least 80%were able to get out.

Because the officials of the city of New Orleans and state of LA are so
corrupt the only thing they know is how to siphon off moneys that had
been given by the feds for fixing the levy system and instead use it on
things like a new mardi grass fountain!

Did you know that the city of New Orleans has a different committee for
each separate levy? Talk about government waste!

If and when that city is rebuilt, the people who move there will hopefully
be more selective in their selection of elected officials.

Uh, the levies fall under the United States Army Corp of Engineers.

Do you know who was responsible for the design of the Moto Guzzi 'Desmo'?

The Corps is not responsible for all levees.
