I do it to all my electronics (but don't live aboard...)
If you are skilled in electronics, or know someone who is, you can purchase a product known as "Conformal coating", which is essentially liquid plastic. You spray both sides of the PCBs, protecting certain components. In 15 years I haven't had a failure, and some of that gear was old when I got it.
