Too bad they're typically different sizes, or a sure cure for the
fuel thieves would be to swap the cap labeled "fuel" on the fuel filler
with the cap labeled "waste" on the deck fitting for holding tank pump
out. One big suck on the plastic hose to get the suction going and the
resulting "mouthful" would cure most fuel thieves on the very first
attempt. (You would want to swap them back before somebody not familiar
with the boat ever attempted to fuel it for you).

In reality, I think it might be pretty east to siphon gas or diesel
from a boat on a trailer, but wouldn't you need a pump if the boat is
in the water? Most fuel tanks are at least partially below the
waterline, and I think that while a siphon hose can run uphill for a
distance- doesn't it have to terminate at a point lower than the
material being siphoned.

as they has screens in them. Has anyone even tried this recently???

I know quite a few Japanese cars have these springs, but most American cars
dont.

I helped out on a fuel pump change in a friends 2004 Caviler, and siphoned
the fuel out with a full size garden hose.

That's because you're an idiot. 99% of boats fuel tanks are below the water
line, making it impossible to siphon.

Of course, I would only expect somebody familiar with boats to know that...

(about 70 gallons, probably all the thieves could carry) while at his
slip in our large public marina.
